Mountain Remuda

We consistently receive feedback from our trail ride and pack trip guests as to how remarkable our horses are.  Our horses do not look, act, or are treated like typical commercial trail ride operation horses.  Our horses are fit and healthy – mentally and physically.  We have been guiding and outfitting in south eastern British Columbia since 2000, and have horses in our current herd that have been with us since we started.  These “old timers” are now twenty years old and are some of our safest and most reliable mounts.  We have a proven method of starting, training, and finishing all breeds of mountain trail horses.  A “finished” mountain trail horse from our Remuda will:

  • Have a safe disposition and good personality
  • Have all the handling fundamentals and be willing and gentle
  • Work as a guide lead horse, or be happy in the string with ‘dudes,” or packed either loose, led, or tail tied
  • Stand, tie, load, hobble, and are good with handling of their feet
  • Navigate steep and challenging terrain
  • Step over logs and obstacles confidently and safely
  • Cross streams, rivers, mud,  bogs, and bridges
  • Be tough enough to handle 50-200 rides per season from May through to November
  • And much more!

As a result of how amazing our horses are, we often get requests to sell them.  Horses from our remuda have gone to homes locally, and as far away as Washington State, California, and Quebec.  Our horses are priced based on how safe they are, how much training they have, their age and experience, and all that they can do.  Just like people, horses are all different and all better or worse at some or all jobs.  We have three categories of mountain horses – “started”, “finished”, and “all around”.  To make “All Around” a horse must have all of the attributes noted in the above list, in addition to meeting our All Around designation.  “All Around” horses have had years of work and hundreds of rides.  They are the cream.  We only see approximately 1 in 20 that make All Around.

Our horses are priced higher than the average trail or saddle horse because they are not “average”.  They are exceptional at their jobs and therefore priced accordingly.  If you are looking for a safe, sound, proven, tough, and reliable mountain trail partner – then we most likely have a horse for you.  Our horses only go to homes and riders we approve.  If you are interested in any of our horses, don’t hesitate to shoot us an email or give us a call.
